The historic land Ethiopia

The historic land Ethiopia is found in the east of Africa and is one of the oldest countries in Africa. Ethiopian civilization emerged dates back thousands of years. Ethiopia is the land of Lucy, the mother of human being. Ethiopia is a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa. It shares borders with Eritrea to the north, Djibouti to the northeast, Somalia to the east and northeast, Kenya to the south, South Sudan to the west, and Sudan to the northwest.

Ethiopia has a total area of 1,100,000 square kilometres (420,000 square miles). As of 2022, it is home to around 113.5 million inhabitants, making it the 12th-most populous country in the world and the 2nd-most populous in Africa after Nigeria. Rock-hewn churches of Lalibela

The eleven Rock-hewn Churches of Lalibela are monolithic churches located in the Western Ethiopian highlands near the town called Lalibela. the town is by named after the late-12th and early-13th century by the name of King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela who commissioned the massive building project of 11 rock-hewn churches to recreate the holy city of Jerusalem in his own kingdom. The Ethiopian orthodox church use it as an important place of pligrimage. It took 24 years to build all the 11 rock hewn churches. This is one of UNESCO world heritare site. The five churches of the northern group are: Biete Golgotha Mikael, Biete Mariam, Biete Denagel, Biete Maskal, and Biete Medhani Alem. The southern group contains another five churches: Biete Lehem, Biete Gabriel Rafael, Biete Abba Libanos, Biete Amanuel, and Biete Qeddus MercoreusThe site of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela was first included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978.

Aksum

Aksum is one of the major empire of the ancient world, the kingdom of Aksum arose in Ethiopia during the frist century C.E. This wealthy African civilization developed for centuries, controlling a large territorial state and access to vast trade routes linking the Roman Empire to the Middle East and India. The ancient kingdom of Aksum was located in present-day Ethiopia. This wealthy African civilization celebrated its achievements with monuments like King Ezana’s stela in Stelae Park, Ethiopia. This is one of UNESCO World Heritare site.

Fasil Ghebbi

The Fasil Ghebbi is a castle located in Gonder, Ethiopia. It was founded in the 17th century by Emperor Fasilides of Ethiopia.  Its unique architecture shows diverse influences including Nubian, Indian, Arab, and Baroque characteristics. Because of its historical importance and architecture, the fortress was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Erta Ale

Erta Ale (or Ertale or Irta’ale is a continuously active basaltic shield volcano in the Afar region of northeastern Ethiopia. It is situated in the Afar Depression, a barren desert area. Lake Tana

Lake Tana is the largest Lake in Ethiopia and the source of the Blue Nile Located  in the north-western Ethiopian highlands. The lake is approximately 84 kilometres (52 miles) long and 66 kilometres (41 miles) wide, with a maximum depth of 15 metres (49 feet), and an elevation of 1,788 metres (5,866 feet).

In 2015, the Lake Tana region was nominated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve recognizing its national and international natural and cultural importance.
